MorSwift Machines Incorporated, based in Digby, NS, has developed an innovative banding technology that has caught the attention of major packaging companies and manufacturers in North America and abroad. The patented MorSwift Pneumatic Rubber Banding Machine was first developed exclusively for lobster banding. The product line has been expanded for a wide variety of applications, including vegetable packing and general purpose applications for any product that requires banding.

The company recently exhibited a prototype at a major international packaging trade show in Chicago to favourable reviews and tremendous interest. The company is currently negotiating with a major US packaging machine company for US and European distribution. A Japanese company is also interested in acting as the company’s Asian distributor.

MorSwift’s unique innovation significantly decreases the time and effort required to put rubber bands around products and has the potential to revolutionize the process. For instance, the machine has the ability to band 110 pounds of lobster in just six minutes, which is an order of magnitude faster than current methods.

Led by one of the company’s founders Roland Swift, president and CEO, MorSwift markets its products to the lobster industry and to agricultural and packaging companies. The company plans to manufacture the machines in the Digby area and will continue development of other products.

MorSwift Machines Inc. was the winner of Innovacorp's I-3 Technology Start-Up Competition that was launched in September 2007 and ended with the finale in February 2008.
