Innovacorp runs the Blue-Green Challenge to build on the increasing ocean technology and agricultural technology development across our region and to ignite the start-up community in Nova Scotia.
Below are highlights about the opportunity. Get the details about the problem statements, competition requirements and application process in the BLUE-GREEN CHALLENGE INFO KIT.
About the Blue-Green Challenge
We’re looking for innovative solutions to problems in the ocean and agricultural sectors. Tell us about your solution for one of our industry problem statements or a challenge you’ve identified. You could win cash and business guidance to put your ideas into action.
Round one winners will receive $5,000 as well as guidance from seasoned business people. Up to 10 awards are anticipated for each stream (i.e., blue and green) this round.
Round two winners will receive up to $10,000. Up to four awards are anticipated for this round.
Entrants must have a new knowledge-based product or service with zero sales revenue since inception.
Companies from around the world may apply, but winners must be registered as a business in Nova Scotia for funds to be released.
Entrants must be the majority owner(s) (51 per cent or more) of the start-up and plan to work full-time with the business in Nova Scotia.
Past participants of Innovacorp programs (e.g., Demo at Sea, ESCF, Spark, Sprint, Start-Up Yard cohorts, etc.) may apply for this competition with a different product or service and a different company. Innovacorp investment portfolio companies are ineligible for this competition.
Eligibility details and evaluation criteria can be found in the BLUE-GREEN CHALLENGE INFO KIT.
The judging committee will evaluate submissions based on: the quality of the product or service, industry knowledge and management experience, barriers to competitive entry, market size, and credibility of plans to reach key milestones. The clarity and persuasiveness of the submitted materials and pitch will also be assessed.
How do I enter?
Entering was easy. Applicants simply submit a four-slide PowerPoint presentation on how their start-up would address one of our problem statements or another ocean or agricultural industry challenge they identified. The deadline was Thursday, October 3, 2019, at 11:59 pm ADT. Submissions were uploaded here.
All submissions are treated confidentially and not made available to the public. Only those involved in managing or judging the competition view submitted documents. While business details will not be disclosed, Innovacorp reserves the right to announce competition winners.
