How do I enter?
Spark Cape Breton is now closed for submissions. The deadline was Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 5:00 pm AST. Entering was easy. Entrants simply submitted a 3-5 page business summary, preferably using our BUSINESS SUMMARY TEMPLATE, answering the questions in the boxes provided. Check out the INFO KIT for all the details.
Winners will receive up to $50,000 in cash as well as mentoring from a team of seasoned business people through the MentorConnect program.
At least four awards are anticipated for the May - August 2016 round of Spark Cape Breton.
The amount awarded will be based on the company’s need and the judging committee’s decisions.
Awards are intended for the establishment and/or future development of the start-up.
A committee of eight judges from the private and public sectors will determine who is invited to pitch their business to the judges and ultimately who is awarded support.
Submissions will be evaluated based on: the quality of the product or service (e.g., competitive edge, uniqueness, scalability), industry knowledge and management experience, barriers to competitive entry, market size, and credibility of plans to reach key milestones. The clarity and persuasiveness of the written plan and pitch will also be assessed.
All submissions will be treated confidentially and will not be made available to the public. Only those directly involved in managing or judging the competition will view submitted documents. While summary details will not be disclosed, the competition organizers reserve the right to announce those who advance to subsequent competition rounds.
