Our expert panel consists of Cecile Klein, business development officer with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, and Stewart Hayne from Cox & Palmer. Cecile will give an overview of the various kinds of intellectual property and Stewart will talk about issues.
Cecile Klein, Business Development Officer, Canadian Intellectual Property Office (www.cipo.ic.gc.ca) – Cecile has been with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for 17 years and in that time has provided advice to thousands of individuals. She is experienced with Canadian, US and European patent databases. CIPO is responsible for the administration and processing of the greater part of intellectual property in Canada. Prior to her work at CIPO, Cecile was a business development officer with Industry Canada and a complaints officer with the Competition Bureau.
Stewart Hayne, Partner, Cox & Palmer (www.coxandpalmerlaw.com) – Stewart is a partner with Cox & Palmer focusing on litigation and intellectual property (IP). He is also a registered Canadian patent agent and a registered Canadian trade-mark agent. His litigation practice includes contract, joint venture, fiduciary duty, confidentiality, IP licensing, patent, trade-mark, software, copyright, trade-secret and trade dress disputes. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. Stewart has a bachelor of science in physics from St. Francis Xavier University, a master of science in physics from the University of Guelph, and a law degree from Dalhousie University. He practised IP litigation in Toronto and patent prosecution and IP licensing in Vancouver before returning to Halifax, joining Cox & Palmer in 2010.
