May the fourth be with you. Er, we mean, may you be with us on May fourth.
And if learning one of the world’s most popular programming languages doesn’t grab you, imagine learning it from Gavin Uhma. Who’s that? Only one of the guys behind one of the region’s biggest technology start-up success stories, GoInstant.
This workshop is for absolute beginners – you don’t have to be “technically-inclined” to join us. You don’t have to be a woman (but you must bring at least one with you). And you don’t even have to have understood – or got a chuckle from –the above shout out to Star Wars.
For just $50 you can learn something wonderfully new, something useful. All in an easy-going, interactive and social setting.
Saturday, May 4, 2013
10:00 am – 5:00 pm (lunch will be provided)
Innovacorp Enterprise Centre
1344 Summer Street, Halifax
A bit more about what you’ll learn:
- Basic programming techniques and concepts that are translatable to other programming languages
- What resources are available if you’d like to continue learning at home (and we think you will)
A bit more about what you’ll need:
Fancy programs aren’t needed, just Notepad and a web browser! That being said, it’s BYO laptop and you should have administrative permissions for WiFi. And for the love of gawd, don’t forget your power cord!
A bit more about Gavin:
As CTO of GOINSTANT, Gavin’s role is to lead the development team and create value. He’s excited by the technological challenges that developers face on a daily basis and amazed by the entire team’s ability to evolve a complex and novel technology into such a simple product.
Before co-founding GoInstant, Gavin was the lead developer and project manager of Slightly Social, a Facebook-based social gaming start-up. Prior to Slightly Social, Gavin was a game developer at Techlink Entertainment.
Gavin graduated from Cape Breton University with a bachelor’s degree in information technology, with a concentration in information management from the Shannon School of Business.
A bit more about Ladies Learning Code:
Ladies Learning Code (LLC) (WWW.LADIESLEARNINGCODE.COM) is a non-profit organization providing women and men an opportunity to learn beginner-friendly computer programming and other technical skills through hands-on workshops. LLC shows people that learning to hack is fun! Almost 2,000 women (and men) have participated in LLC’s workshops since August 2011. This is the second workshop held by LLC’s Halifax chapter. (Ask around, the first one was amazing. This one will be too. See you there!)
