After working at a summer camp for people with cognitive and physical disabilities, Rebecca Dunphy identified a void in the market. While taking campers on outings, Rebecca realized that ensuring spaces are accessible doesn’t have to mean a total retrofit for a building. Through this realization, the social enterprise RampAge was born.
Join us Thursday, April 5, as Rebecca explains her design for a portable ramp that covers three to five steps. The ramps are made out of recycled tires, and are lightweight and portable. Although the project is still in its early stages, Michelin has already come on as a partner. Long-term, Rebecca hopes to manufacture the ramps in one of the Mi’kmaq communities in Cape Breton.
While her idea is still in the development stage, Rebecca took home an award for her project mid-March. After pitching to a panel of world renowned social enterprise experts, Rebecca was award the national award at the Youth Innovation Summit in Ottawa.
