The Ocean Startup Project is a Pan-Atlantic collaboration of Creation Destruction Lab, Genesis, Innovacorp, New Brunswick Innovation Foundation, PEI BioAlliance, and Springboard Atlantic (collectively known as the "steering committee"). Our collaborative vision is to build a world-class innovation ecosystem for ocean technology start-ups.
The Ocean Startup Project is an ambitious 24-month strategy to create and grow ocean technology companies. It focuses on funnel development (year 1) and acceleration (year 2). Funnel development projects include industry innovation and technology problem identification; engage cafes and boot camps; industry innovation and technology challenge competition; a university lab 2 market; and CDL's ocean stream. Acceleration in year two includes acceleration and incubation programs.
Reporting to the project steering committee, the executive director will be responsible for the project leadership as well as engaging the greater ecosystem to help the steering committee achieve its vision.
- Develops execution and project management plans as a member of the operations committee
- Is responsible for the overall project coordination throughout Atlantic Canada
- Is tasked with managing the overall project budget in concert with Genesis staff
- Is responsible for reporting on the performance of the project against a pre-determined set of metrics; providing foresight on a series of targets and strategies for attainment
- Identifies and provides action-oriented recommendations to the steering committee on risks to the success of the project
- Will provide leadership around a common goal to a decentralized team of people from across Atlantic Canada which includes direct reports, partners and organizations
- Develops and maintains partnerships with ecosystem players across Canada to help achieve the vision of this project
The ideal candidate should have strong leadership and project management experience. The candidate will be able to navigate and manage the relationships between multiple projects and entities. The individual should be proactive and energetic, able to work in a fast-paced environment and has strong oral and written communication skills. Through 5-10 years of work experience, they have the ability to influence without authority and build strong, collaborative networks.
Compensation is competitive and based on experience. Position is externally funded with funding currently in place until September 30, 2021, with an opportunity for extension.
This position requires extensive travel throughout Atlantic Canada. Start-up and/or ocean sector experience would be considered an asset.
