Whether you’re a driven athlete, an armchair sports enthusiast, or a person still bitter about the time Seinfeld was pre-empted by a hockey game, you have to hand it to high performing athletes and their coaches. There’s something in their makeup, attitude and approach that leads to their world-class performance. In fact, we could all learn a lesson or two.

Join us on Wednesday, June 26, and get some leadership lessons from top-notch athletes – lessons you can use to grow your company.

Our all-star panel will include a canoe-kayak Olympian (Julia Rivard), world championship curler (Colleen Jones), and former NHL player and head coach of the Saint Mary’s University men’s hockey team (Trevor Stienburg).

Julia Rivard, Senior Partner, Norex.ca (WWW.NOREX.CA) – Julia was a member of the national kayak team for three years, winning the top women's team title at the 1998 World Championships and placing ninth at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Incredibly entrepreneurial, Julia founded and ran a Dartmouth-based incubation centre for independent creatives, Queen Street Studios, which she later merged with website design and marketing firm Norex.ca, where she is now a senior partner. She also played a significant role in the growth of SheepDogInc.ca, Canada’s leading cloud services broker. Julia’s latest venture is Pursu.it, a crowdfunding platform for Canadian athletes.

Colleen Jones, Broadcaster, CBC (WWW.CBC.CA) – Colleen was skip of two women's world championship teams and six Tournament of Hearts Canadian women's championships. Most recently, her team won the 2013 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts and competed at the national competition. She began her broadcasting career in 1982 and today handles sports and weather on CBC News. In her broadcast career, she has covered five Olympic Games for CBC, including the 1988 Seoul Olympics and more recently, the 2004 Athens Olympics. Colleen is an inductee into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame and Canadian Curling Hall of Fame.

Trevor Stienburg, Head Coach, Men’s Hockey Team, Saint Mary’s University (WWW.SMU.CA) – Trevor is a former player with the Quebec Nordiques, and now head coach for Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team. He is the reigning “dean” of Atlantic University Sport (AUS) hockey coaches, with 16 years behind the bench with the Huskies. Under his reign, Saint Mary’s won its first Canada Interuniversity Sport (CIS) National Championship in 2010, ending an eight-decade drought. In 2013, his team was in the finals of the CIS championship. Over the years, Trevor has amassed almost 150 wins, meaning the Huskies have earned points in 65 per cent of the games played under his leadership. Trevor has been named Coach of the Year by AUS and CIS several times.
