The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS), in collaboration with Innovacorp, is presenting Nova Scotia companies the chance to meet two expert advisors who can explain how to grow their company and seek US-based venture capital funding. Both advisors support the Trade Commissioner’s (TCS) Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) program.

Christopher Googoo

Christopher Googoo is a proud member of the We’koqma’q First Nation, living in Millbrook with his wife and three children. Since joining Ulnooweg Development Group in 2000, he has helped hundreds of Aboriginal entrepreneurs secure loans and access business services. Chris also co-led the development of the Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Economic Development Strategy and played a key role in bringing the CanCode initiative to Mi’kmaq communities across Nova Scotia.

Appili Therapeutics Raises an Additional $4.3 Million in Oversubscribed Financing to Advance its Anti-infective Pipeline

Appili Therapeutics Inc. (the “Company” or “Appili”), a biopharmaceutical company developing and commercializing anti-infective drugs, announced today it raised an additional $4,339,000 in an oversubscribed private placement financing, bringing the total equity raised since its seed round in March 2016 to $11,816,000. In addition, Appili is also pleased to be receiving a $500,000 repayable contribution from the Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s (ACOA) Business Development Program.

QRA Corp Completes Sale to Royal Canadian Air Force for New Quality Analysis Software

QRA Corp, an emerging design verification technology firm, announced today that software delivery of its requirements analysis technology to the Canadian Department of National Defence is complete. The tools delivered are advanced versions of the commercially available QVscribe for Word and QVscribe for Excel.

Start-Ups Selected for CleanTech Development Program

Four Nova Scotia clean technology start-ups are getting a boost towards investment readiness through Innovacorp’s CleanTech Development Program.

Supported by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the program offers participants up to $50,000 in non-dilutive, non-repayable funding to address key technical and business milestones.

Appili Recognized as New Business of the Year by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce

Appili Therapeutics Inc. (Appili), a biopharmaceutical company focused on anti-infective drug development and commercialization, today announced that Halifax Chamber of Commerce presented Appili with the 2018 New Business of the Year award.

The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Halifax Business Awards gala event on Thursday, January 25, 2018, held at the Halifax Convention Centre. Kevin Sullivan, Appili’s CEO, accepted the award on behalf of the company.

TecSocial: Big Spruce Brewing - A Start-Up Story | Cape Breton

After falling in love with Cape Breton, Jeremy White bought a farm outside of Nyanza online - without viewing it - and Big Spruce Brewing was born. Little did Jeremy know that his small brewery would skyrocket into such quick success, becoming a prominent brew in the Nova Scotia craft beer scene.

Big Spruce Brewing is unique in that they only brew unfiltered, unpasteurized beer using certified organic hops.The organic beers are sold in refillable 1.80 liter growler bottles at the brewery or in cans at NSLC.
