New Innovacorp President, CEO Named

Local business leader Stephen Duff is the new president and CEO of Innovacorp.    

Mr. Duff brings 30 years of experience as a business and product development professional in the private sector. His appointment takes effect April 1.

Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Percy Paris said he is confident Mr. Duff will build on the important role Innovacorp has played to help develop the business community.

St John Ambulance Northern Territory Joins Siren's Worldwide ePCR User Community

Australian Ambulance Service Provider, St John Ambulance Northern Territory (NT) Inc. (SJA NT), has signed a four-year hosted contract with Medusa Medical Technologies and Medusa’s Asia/Pacific distribution partner, Nautilus Health, to implement the Siren ePCR system and further support the delivery of ambulance services across the Northern Territory. Siren ePCR will replace SJA NT’s paper-based system and is expected to produce over 50,000 electronic patient care records each year.

Seaforth Energy Inks Deal to Assist Jamaican Farmers

Seaforth Energy of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Jamaica Agricultural Society to provide clean, green power to Jamaican farmers at a cost less than their existing supply.

Jamaican electricity costs approximately $0.38 per kilowatt hour, compared to approximately $0.13 in Nova Scotia. The majority of Jamaican power is generated by burning diesel fuel, which has an impact on the air, water, land, and ultimately, food produced in Jamaica.

Seaforth Energy Inc., a leading wind turbine manufacturer, has named Ron Zima as vice president of business development.

Zima will assume overall responsibility for sales, marketing, and management of customer relations globally, while helping develop and support the company’s distribution network.

2nd Act Innovations Names Silicon Valley CEO and CTO to Oris4 Team

Halifax-based software company 2nd Act Innovations’ co-founders Andrew Doyle and Peter Hickey have announced that Reza Kazemipour has been named CEO and Guillaume Oget has become CTO. Kazemipour and Oget will be based in 2nd Act’s Palo Alto office and work closely with the co-founders and development team in Halifax.

Kazemipour is a Silicon Valley veteran with more than 20 years of experience in sales, strategy and business leadership roles in the software industry, with a handful of exits, including the sale of FAST to Microsoft.

Atlas Block, CarbonCure Sign Agreement to Manufacture Low-Carbon Concrete

Concrete manufacturer Atlas Block has signed a licensing agreement with Halifax-based CarbonCure Technologies to make low-carbon concrete products available in Ontario. Atlas Block with CarbonCure products have been specified for several sports centre projects for the upcoming 2015 Pan Am Games.

After several months of testing, Atlas has decided to permanently install CarbonCure’s technology, and apply it across their broad line of products.

BDC Venture Capital Commits $10 Million to the Atlantic Canada Regional Venture Fund

Today, (December 20, 2012) the Business Development Bank of Canada’s venture capital arm announces its commitment of $10 million to the Atlantic Canada Regional Venture Fund which is being set up to finance start-up companies in the IT, clean energy and healthcare sectors. This contribution by Canada’s largest institutional venture capital investor brings to approximately $50 million the total amount committed to date by the various partners to the fund, which is now open for business and actively seeking investment candidates throughout the Atlantic provinces.
